Why do the math yourself
Vendors love to tell you what a missed call “typically” costs. Those figures are often someone else's guess, repeated until they sound like research. MendRev does not supply a missed-call value, a booking rate or an average ticket. You already know your own numbers better than we do.
The calculator on the MendRev homepage multiplies three figures you enter: how many calls you miss in a month, what share of those you think would have booked, and what a typical job is worth to you. Nothing is sent anywhere. The result is your estimate, not a promise.
How to fill in each field
Calls you miss in a month. Count voicemails, abandoned calls and “sorry I missed you” texts from the last full month if you can. If you do not track them yet, start this month. Guessing is allowed; mark it as a guess.
Of those, the percent that would have booked. This is the most uncertain input. Use a cautious number. If 10 missed callers left a message and 2 later booked when you called back, that is not the same as 2 out of every 10 who never left a message. Do not invent a high percentage to make the result dramatic.
What a typical job is worth to you. Use the figure you already think in — an average repair ticket, or a conservative number if replacement jobs swing wildly.
How to read the result
The output is a simple multiplication: missed calls × booking guess × job value. If you miss 20 calls, guess that 1 in 5 would have booked, and a job is worth $250 to you, the estimate is 20 × 0.20 × 250 = $1,000 of work that month. Change any input and the story changes. That is the point.
Compare the estimate with what you would pay to pick up more of those calls. Voice plans are published on Voice Solutions: $297 for a 30-day pilot, then monthly plans from $297. If the estimate is smaller than the plan, you may decide to track missed calls for another month before you buy. If it is larger, you still should not treat the calculator as a guarantee — it is your own arithmetic.
What the calculator does not include
- It does not know your real close rate.
- It does not add the value of a customer who would have called again later.
- It does not subtract the cost of jobs you could not have staffed anyway.
- It does not measure website visitors who never called because the number was hard to find.
That last gap is why the website still matters. If people cannot tap a call button, there is no call for a receptionist to catch. See how an AI receptionist stops missed calls and Website Solutions.
After you have a number
Write it down with the date and the three inputs you used. Recalculate after you have a cleaner missed-call count. If you want the receptionist on those forwarded calls — today that service is set up for residential HVAC contractors — start with the $297 pilot or ask for a demo call. If the larger leak is that customers cannot find or trust you online, get a website preview instead.
Questions
Does MendRev store the numbers I type into the calculator?
No. The homepage calculator runs in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Is the result a guarantee of recovered revenue?
No. It is your estimate. The receptionist also does not dispatch techs or book jobs on its own.
